Nicely put together, Terry - in terms of your 'thumb nailing', I think you should absolutely embrace collaging 'found imagery' via Photoshop - so 'kit bashing' from photos, from scanned bits of rubbish - try photographing actual junk and then chopping up those images in Photoshop to create interesting forms. The other thing to think about is the idea of 'architecture' that is more 'developed' or 'combined' than designed or built - for example:
